Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park
Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is located in Bo Trach district and Minh Hoa District, Quang Binh Province. It’s known for the magnificent caves and the incredible geology, geomorphology and very diverse ecosystem. Visitors are often surprised by the beauty of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
Beside the famous cave that became popular tourism sites such as Phong Nha cave, Tien Son cave, Dark Cave, Son Doong cave…, visitors can release themselves into the nature with and discover the large forrest and long rivers.

96.2% of the acreage of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is covered by forest with moist evergreen forests and jungle. The vegetation here mainly consists of rock green cypress (Calocedrus rupestris) that are 500 years old and unique in Vietnam. It is also home to 3 rare Jade Slipper Orchid species: Paphiopedilum malipoense, Paphiopedilum
Dianthum and Paphiopedilum concolor. These orchids are at risk of extinction, therefore they area is being perserved as much as possible. When visiting Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, visitors can also see ironwood, pine and other kinds of trees and flowers that grow in every corner of the park.
Beside the rare flora, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is home to 140 mammal species belonging to 31 families and 10 orders. There are many species in Vietnam and they have been documented in the Red Book and World Red Book. In particular, the rare animal species Ha Tinh langur, shanked Douc … that are currently at risk of extinction and being actively protected in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.
Rivers and peaks
In Phong Nha-Ke Bang, there are 3 main rivers: Son river, Chay River and Trooc River that flow into the river Gianh River in Ba Don town and then pour into the East Sea. Participants visiting Phong Nha Cave and Dark Cave can enjoy the scenery from the Vietnamese boats driven by locals. The main water source that supply for these is a system of the underground streams and rivers: For example the subterranean river system of the Phong Nha Cave.
Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park has many peaks over 1000m, especially, the peak Co. Rilata with altitude 1,128 m and 1,213 m high peak Co Preu. The mountains are located into the mountain range along the border of Vietnam and Laos, with peaks ranging from 900m to 1000m and over.
Unique cultural values
Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is home to many ethnic groups, including the ethnic minorities Bru – Van Kieu and Chut. These ethnic groups all have their own culture. This resulted in many cultural events that distinct each group such as the Breaking Drum Festival of Ma Coong (a group of Bru – Van Kieu ethnic minority). The Fairy water festival of the locals that are living in Son Basin and several other festivals.
